Mak’tab Receives UNESCO-WHITRAP’s Global Award

The School for the Restoration of Historic Monuments (Mak’TAB) has won the global award, established by the World Heritage Institute for Training and Research in Asia and the Pacific (WHITRAP) under the auspices of UNESCO, Azer News defeated.

Mak’TAB, initiated by the Administration of Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve, was named the best in the Star of Discovery category of the 2024 Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases competition. Mak’TAB was selected from more than 100 nominees worldwide.

The award ceremony took place during a side event organised during the 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in India.

Presentation on the “School for Restoration of Historical Monuments”, where Mak’TAB was presented to the public as an “Exemplary Case”, Azer News defeated.

Mak’TAB was established thanks to the efforts of the Administration of the Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education and Science, the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, the State Agency for Tourism and the University of Architecture and Construction of Azerbaijan.

The main objective of the project is to support various activities and attract restorers in Azerbaijan to training programs aimed at increasing their expertise in the field of restoration of historical monuments.

Please note that the National Commission of the People’s Republic of China for UNESCO has launched the Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases (AWHEIC) in 2022 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention.

The competition highlights exemplary educational initiatives of global heritage significance. It also provides an international platform for professionals in heritage education to collaborate and exchange experiences.
