Turkish mercenaries have been setting fires in occupied Afrin for 7 days

Local sources in the occupied city of Afrin confirmed to an ANHA correspondent that the Turkish-backed mercenaries have been setting fires in the villages and mountains of Afrin’s countryside for seven days.

According to the sources, the mercenaries started the fires in the village of Darwish, which is part of the Rajo district of occupied Afrin, since around 8:00 pm last night.

After seven days of fires that spread across numerous villages and vast green areas, damage has been caused to tens of thousands of trees, both fruit trees (such as olive, cherry, pomegranate, pistachio, fig and grape trees) and forest trees (such as cypress, pine and oak).

Previously, the mercenaries had set fires in the country between several villages. The villages that we have documented burning include: (Adamo, Albeska, Balilko, Jala, Khallulko, Kosa, Shankila, B’arefa, Darwish), making a total of about nine villages targeted so far, with others yet to be documented.

Sources indicated that the fires are not being put out by anyone except a few remaining residents of Afrin, underscoring the efforts of Turkey and its mercenaries to destroy the natural environment of the occupied territory.

It is noted that the Turkish occupation forces and their mercenaries have cut down and burned more than 391,900 fruit and forest trees with the intention of selling them, and have burned 12,000 hectares of agricultural land in the last six years of their occupation of Afrin.
