New Jersey offers more than other states. Simply put, it’s a way of life that you won’t find anywhere else. Perhaps that’s the main thing that keeps us here.

And if you’re looking to retire, there’s one part of the state that’s the best place to settle down. Not only is it a beautiful area of the state, it’s also one of the more affordable counties (more on the real cost of retiring here in a moment).

Best NJ District for Retirement

Cape May County is certainly one of the most peaceful places in The Great Garden State, so it’s no surprise that it’s the number one county to retire in. That is, should you choose to spend your old age here.

The Victorian homes, beaches, and simple peace and quiet certainly make this a top choice for retirement. And since this state is so expensive, it is certainly one of the more affordable places you will find.

While it’s a bit annoying that affordability only gets a C, it’s the best on the list (the only other county to get a C was #8 Burlington). Still, you can’t deny the charm that Cape May County has to offer.

When it comes to affordability, have you ever wondered how much you actually need to save to retire comfortably in New Jersey? And what about other states?

Some of these numbers are actually quite surprising, and not in a good way. Here’s a look at how much you need to save for retirement in each state, starting with the lowest.

The good news? New Jersey isn’t the most expensive (wait until you see #1). The bad news? It’s not that cheap either.
