Local elections: No local elections in Hry for three years, says Selja | Chandigarh News

Chandigarh: Terming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime in Haryana as a “government of empty promises”, All India Congress Committee general secretary Kumari Selja on Monday said that while it claims to strengthen local bodies — municipalities, councils and corporations — “there are no such bodies”. What will it strengthen? “No elections have been held to the 38 municipalities and councils in the state for the past three years,” Selja said. The Sirsa MP said the BJP government in the state, known for making “false promises”, is shooting arrows in the air. “The plan to start international flights from Hisar airport has been discussed, but even domestic flights have not started yet. The start of production at the Gorakhpur nuclear power plant remains uncertain,” the former union leader said. Selja said the BJP government has failed to fulfil any of its promises to the public. “When the public demands answers, new promises are made. People have started describing the BJP government as a government of empty promises. To fulfil one lie, the BJP tells a hundred lies. Farmers, youth, women, workers – everyone is upset and has taken to the streets to protest for their rights, while the Nayab Singh Saini regime looks the other way,” the Congress leader said. The public is being plagued by power cuts, while not a single power plant has been set up during the BJP’s 10-year tenure and “existing plants are not being maintained properly, leading to frequent shutdowns”, she said, adding that the government was buying expensive electricity from its “friendly power plants”, which was a burden to the common man. She said former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone for the Gorakhpur nuclear power plant, which was supposed to be completed by 2026, but even after 26 years it seems unlikely. “The fate of this power plant and its electricity production remain uncertain,” she added.
