Monroe clerks share voting information for August 13 primary

MONROE, CT — Four Democrats will face off in a primary race for the party’s nomination to fill Connecticut’s 22nd senatorial district following the retirement of longtime state legislator Marilyn Moore. The winner will face Republican-backed candidate Chris Carrena in November.

The 22nd District includes Trumbull and parts of Monroe and Bridgeport. Democrats vying for their party’s nomination are Scott Burns, Bill Finch, Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox and Tyler Mack.

Meanwhile, Republicans Gerry Smith and Matthew M. Cory are seeking their party’s nomination to challenge incumbent U.S. Senator Christopher Murphy for the Democratic seat.

The GOP also has a battle going on between Bob MacGuffie and Michael Goldstein for the right to take on U.S. Rep. Jim Himes in the 4th Congressional District.

Monroe will host the Democratic and Republican primaries on Tuesday, August 13 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the following locations:

Democratic primaries: Only voters in Districts 2 and 3 for Senate District #22:

  • District 2: Stepney Elementary School, 180 Old Newtown Road, use the main entrance
  • District 3: Monroe Elementary School, 375 Monroe Turnpike, use the main entrance

Republican primaries: All Districts (1, 2, 3, and 4) U.S. Senator and Representative from Congressional District #4:

District 1: Fawn Hollow Elementary School, 345 Fan Hill Road, use the main entrance

District 2: Stepney Elementary School, 180 Old Newtown Road, use the main entrance

District 3: Monroe Elementary School, 375 Monroe Turnpike, use the main entrance

District 4: Masuk High School, 1014 Monroe Turnpike, use the main entrance

Only registered Democrats or Republicans are eligible to vote in their respective primaries. Click here to confirm your voter registration status and the location of your polling place.

Early voting

New this primary season is the opportunity to vote early for the primaries. This is possible from August 5 through 11 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Monroe City Hall, 7 Fan Hill Road, and on August 6 and 8 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The deadline for independent voters who wish to vote during the early voting period to register with a party is no later than afternoon on August 2.

People who are not yet registered in Monroe and who wish to vote during the early voting period before the primary election should submit their voter registration application (for a party holding a primary election) to the Monroe Voter Registration Office by noon on the business day before the day they wish to vote.

The deadline for registering in person with the voter registration office or municipal clerk to vote in a primary election on August 13 is no later than afternoon on August 12.

People who plan to register to vote in person can do so through Monday, August 12, at the Voter Registration Office in Monroe City Hall, 7 Fan Hill Road. Bring a photo ID and proof of residency.

There is no on-day registration possible for these primaries.
