Extremely heavy rainfall predicted in Kerala, Gujarat and Rajasthan; Orange alert issued for these states

Kerala is expected to witness extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places on Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The weather department has issued a Red Alert for several districts in the state and an Orange Alert for parts of Gujarat, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya, among others.

In today’s daily bulletin, the meteorological department said that the southwest monsoon wave is active and is south of its normal position at sea level. It is expected to gradually shift northwards over the next three to four days.

“The offshore trough at mid sea level is extending along the coasts of south Gujarat to Kerala. A cyclonic circulation lies over the northeastern Arabian Sea and borders Saurashtra in lower tropospheric levels,” the IMD said.

  1. South Peninsula India

Very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of coastal and southern interior Karnataka on July 30 and in Kerala on July 31.

Further, heavy rainfall is forecast at isolated places in northern interior Karnataka on July 30; and in Kerala, coastal districts and southern interior Karnataka between July 30 and August 1.

The weather office has predicted fairly light to moderate rainfall over Kerala, Lakshadweep, parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over the next five days.

  1. Western and Central India

Very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Saurashtra and Kutch on July 30, in Goa on August 1, in eastern Madhya Pradesh between July 31 and August 2, in the Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh on August 1 and 2 and in western Madhya Pradesh on August 2.

There is also a high chance of heavy rainfall in Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat and western Madhya Pradesh between July 30 and August 2; eastern Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh from July 30 to August 2 and Vidarbha region on August 1 and 2.

  1. Northwest India

Uttarakhand is expected to receive very heavy rainfall between July 30 and August 2, followed by Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit Baltistan and Muzaffarabad on July 31 and August 1; and Haryana, Chandigarh, Western Uttar Pradesh and Western Rajasthan on July 31.

In addition, there is a chance of heavy rainfall in most of the northwestern region in the coming days.

  1. East and Northeast India

Very heavy rainfall is forecast at several places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura between July 30 and August 1; in Arunachal Pradesh on August 1 and 2; and in Odisha between July 31 and August 1.

In addition, heavy rainfall is also possible in Odisha, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from July 30 to August 2; in Arunachal Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on July 30, August 1 and 2; in Assam and Meghalaya on July 30; in Jharkhand between July 30 and August 1; and in parts of West Bengal on July 31 and August 1.
