After suspicious movements were noticed on Tuesday, security forces launched a search operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

Officials said a CASO (Cordon & Search Operation) was launched after information was received about the movements of two terrorists in a remote village in the district.

The two armed suspects, reportedly dressed in black, were seen late on Monday night in Salampura village, near Dehra Ki Gali.

“The police, assisted by the Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF, launched a joint operation immediately after receiving the information. The suspected militants were spotted moving towards the lower Pangai area. The search operation is underway. However, there has been no contact with the suspected terrorists so far,” officials said here.

“Security forces also launched search operation this morning in Sanai, Jangal, Pattan and adjoining villages in Surankote area of Poonch and Bangar-Saroor forest in Drabshalla area of Kishtwar district,” the officials further said.

The army has already deployed over 4,000 soldiers, including highly trained elite commandos and soldiers trained in mountain combat, to root out terrorists from the hilly districts of Jammu division.

The move was taken following reports of a group of 40-50 hardcore foreign terrorists operating in these districts and gaining credibility through ambush attacks in Kathua, Doda, Reasi, Poonch and Rajouri. (Agency)
