Home Affairs Secretary responds to the instruction

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has inscribed the Historic Moravian District of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on the World Heritage List, making it the 26th U.S. site to receive the designation. The historic planned community, built in 1741, is the first U.S. World Heritage site to be designated as a transnational site, joining two other Moravian historic sites in Ireland and Denmark.

Secretary Deb Haaland directed the Department of the Interior (DOI) to submit an application for this designation in 2022, with support from the National Park Service.

“The United States is deeply honored to be included on the UNESCO World Heritage List with the designation of the Historic Moravian Bethlehem District, where visitors from around the world can learn about the rich history of Moravian settlements, their cultural traditions, and spiritual ideals,” said Secretary Haaland. “This designation recognizes the incredible work of the National Park Service and its local partners to preserve an important part of American – and world – history.”

Pray with us, as the Lord leads us…

  • For wisdom for Secretary Haaland, who now heads the Department of the Interior.
  • For U.S. Interior officials working to recognize U.S. counties as historic sites.
  • So that Director Sams can have God’s guidance in his oversight of the National Park Service.
