Groups call off planned protests in northern states and Abuja

Three groups, Take It Back (North Central), Middle Belt Economic Forum and Renewed Hope Prosperity Ambassadors, have called off their planned protest in northern states including Abuja.

The decision was announced at a joint press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

The groups cited concerns about the potential for destabilization and harm to their communities as the primary reason for their decision. This conclusion was reached after a careful assessment of the situation and a fruitful interaction with the Minister of Water Resources, Prof. Joseph Utsev.

Dr. Amodu Ben, who spoke at the conference, also commended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and other key stakeholders in North Central for their efforts in maintaining peace and order in the region.

“We made this decision not out of fear or intimidation, but from a deep understanding of the current political climate and the potential consequences of our actions,” said Dr. Ben.

He stressed that the groups recognise the right to protest as a fundamental aspect of citizenship, but also emphasised the importance of peaceful and constructive dialogue to avoid catastrophic consequences.

Dr. Ben highlighted instances where peaceful protests had escalated into violent confrontations, resulting in widespread destruction, loss of life and immense human suffering.

The groups urged citizens to focus their energies on constructive dialogue and engagement with government.

“Let us join forces to create a better future for the Middle Belt region, a future based on the principles of peace, prosperity and cooperation,” said Dr. Ben.

He expressed his sincere compliments to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and other key stakeholders in North Central for their dedication to maintaining peace.

“Their tireless efforts to maintain peace and order in the region have not gone unnoticed, and their dedication to the well-being of our nation is truly commendable.”

Dr. Ben also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts in boosting development programmes and easing the burden on citizens.

“We recognize and appreciate the President’s diligent efforts to improve the lives of citizens, and we must support and work with him to achieve our shared goals,” he added.

Finally, Dr. Ben called for unity and cooperation to create a better future for the Middle Belt region, stressing the importance of peace, prosperity and joint efforts to create a harmonious and thriving society for future generations.
