Implement evidence-based management with ecosystem integrity goals in mind: PCCF

ITANAGAR, July 30: Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Environment, Forests and Climate Change) and Chief of Forests, Environment, Forests and Climate Change P. Subramanyam inaugurated a two-day workshop at the DK Convention Centre here on Tuesday.

The Arunachal Pradesh State Wetlands Authority (APSWA) in collaboration with Wetlands International South Asia (WISA) is organizing a workshop on Integrated Wetland Management to update the knowledge and need for technological intervention in a case study.

In his address, Subramanyam called on all officials, including wetland managers and other wetland officials, to design and implement evidence-based management that links societal aspirations with ecosystem integrity goals.

The PCCF emphasized that the workshop will contribute to understanding issues, challenges and opportunities for technological intervention to achieve good design.

WISA Chairman Dr. Sidharth Kaul, as the focal person, highlighted various issues related to the wetland programme, shared his experiences and knowledge on planning issues and assured continued support for the conservation of the state’s wetlands.

Directors Dr. Dohu Robin (State Environment and Climate Change) and Dr. Ritesh Kumar (WISA) conducted several technical sessions with 50 wetland managers and wetland mitras.

Samuel Changkija, Member Secretary of APSWA, highlighted the important role of wetlands in sustainable development and shared the latest data and various activities.

An MoU signed by WISA and APSWA emphasised the firm commitment to continued collaboration to conserve and wisely use the state’s wetlands.
